The revitalization of Jakarta’s Halim Perdanakusuma Airport (Halim Airport) will begin on Wednesday, January 26, 2022. This activity is carried out as a follow-up to the issuance of Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 9 of 2022 concerning Revitalization of Indonesian National Army Base Facilities/Halim Perdanakusuma Airport.
“With the start of revitalization, Halim Airport will be temporarily closed starting January 26, 2022. The closing time is estimated to be a maximum of 3.5 months,” explained Ministry of Transportation Spokesperson Adita Irawati through a press statement in Jakarta, on Friday (21/1/2022).
The implementation, she added, was carried out to improve land and air side facilities, in order to improve aspects of flight safety, security and comfort.
She explained that previously, since a few months ago, the Ministry of Transportation together with the Indonesian Air Force had coordinated with stakeholders in order to anticipate the impact of the cessation of flight service operations at Halim Airport.
“We inform you of the temporary closure of Halim Perdanakusuma Airport early so that all relevant parties are ready to take steps to handle and impact from the closure,” said Adita.
She explained that the Ministry of Transportation through the Directorate General of Civil Aviation had asked airport operators and airlines to prepare passenger handling steps such as flight cancellations, ticket refunds, flight route diversions, and so on.
“We also urge people who have purchased plane tickets with departures through Halim Airport to contact the airline so that the next handling process will be carried out,” said Adita.
As for the work to be carried out, she explained, namely development on the air side and land side, which includes; rehabilitating the runway and taxiways, increasing the capacity of the Naratetama and Naratama aircraft parking aprons in the form of renovation of the Naratetama and Naratama buildings, renovation of operating buildings, improvement of the drainage system in the airport, and arrangement of other facilities.
Halim Perdanakusuma Airport has so far served scheduled, unscheduled commercial flights, cargo, military flights and VVIP. As long as the revitalization is ongoing, said Adita, airport operations are temporarily suspended and there are no flights to and from Halim.
Furthermore, she continued, flight operations will be relocated to other airports, such as: Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Husein Sastranegara Airport, Kertajati Airport, Budiarto Airport, and Pondok Cabe Airport.
On the same occasion, the Head of the Indonesian Air Force Information Service (Kadispenau) Marsekal Madya TNI Indan Gilang Buldansyah explained that the Indonesian Air Force related to the revitalization of Halim Air Base, carried out the Move Squadron (Transfer of the Air Squadron and Technical Squadron) at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base Jakarta to Husein Sastranegara Air Base. Bandung and Soekarno Hatta International Airport.
“Several units will operate from Husein Sastranegara Air Base, namely Air Squadron (Skadud) 2 which operates the CN-295 aircraft, Skadud 31 operates the C-130 Hercules aircraft, and the 021 Engineering Squadron in charge of carrying out light and medium level maintenance of the CN-295 aircraft. and C-130 Hercules,” explained Marsekal Madya TNI Indan Gilang Buldansyah.
Meanwhile Skadud 17, which operates the Boeing B-737 aircraft, will operate from Soekarno Hatta Airport, Tangerang, Banten.
He said that the Skadron Move has been implemented in stages since December 2021. Furthermore, the ferry flights for Skadud 2, 17 and 31 will be held on Monday and Tuesday, January 24 and 25, 2022. (ard)
